Stop, Take a step back, Observe, Proceed mindfully - a brief skill for responding instead of reacting.
Introduction 2
What STOP means:
S = Stop: Remain still for a moment, not making any sudden moves, no speaking, no acting on immediate urges or impulses.
T = Take a step back: Physically and mentally pause, breath, give yourself a moment of space.
O = Observe: Notice your internal experiences (thoughts, feelings, body sensations) and what's happening around you (other people, environment).
P = Proceed mindfully: Choose an intentional response that aligns with your values, goals, or what will be effective in the long-term.
